Boys off season lacrosse training

The LAX Farm provides an exciting alternative for boys grades 1-8. The LAX Farm offers Austin a Fall youth lacrosse league structured for the novice or beginning player. Get a jump on the official lacrosse Spring season by playing off season House league Fall ball with The LAX Farm. We offer the introduction to the full lacrosse experience with guidance and instruction. Throughout the season every player will find or enhance their game.

The season for 2016 will open registration in May.  Teams will meet weekly on Sundays at Brushy Creek Sports Park in Cedar Park (2310 Brushy Creek Road) and  teams will practice for one hour, then play a regulation game for one hour. This format is ideal for busy families since it requires only two hours per week, but still provides a healthy activity and team sport exposure for your son.

For boys grades 1-4 we offer a full lacrosse experience from 1:30-3:30 p.m.  Your little guy will get the thrill of experiencing lacrosse as it is meant to be played. No chumash here.

The 5th-8th graders are grouped together weekly for practices. Coaches divide the group into teams and then they play a game. This session last from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

2016 LAX Farm House Fall League begins Sunday, September 11th and ends Sunday October 23rd. Teams will be divided based on experience and skill level.

LAX Farm Fall League 2016 Important Information

Parents,

Hello! If you're receiving this email your son is scheduled for The LAX Farm Fall League. The league runs from Sunday, September 11th to Sunday, October 30th. If we have rain outs on any of our scheduled Sundays then we will extend the season out to November 6th.

The time slot for each age group is as follows:

1st to 4th grade Division -  1:30 pm to 3:30 pm

5th to 8th grade Division - 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm

Each division will practice approximately 45 minutes and then we will divide up and play a game for the remaining time.

Please read this e-mail carefully. It contains information you need.

The LAX Farm will be held at the Brushy Creek Sports Complex located at 2310 Brushy Creek Road in Cedar Park. We are scheduled to play on field 2 each Sunday.  As you enter the park the fields are in front of you to the right.

Parents are welcome to stay and watch or you can drop off. If you decide to drop off, we will have everyone's contact information and my info is below if you need me. The park has jogging/bike trails, a skateboard park, a playscape and a disc golf course. Plenty to do for the rest of the family. Please bring chairs and coolers if you plan to stay for the full two hours and kindly set up under the goal posts on either side of the field. Players and coaches will setup in the middle of the field. We recommend you bring chairs/tents since there are no stands at the complex.

We will have a tent set up with our banner so you should spot us easily. Everyone should receive their jersey on the first day. They are required to wear them each week. For those that registered after August 20th you will receive a jersey but it may not be personalized. Please be patient the first day so we can hand these out.

Please have your son dressed and ready to go by his division's start time. If your son is new to the sport and is unsure of how to put on his gear, there will be coaches available to help. Feel free to come early and we will help your son suit up.  I will do my best to ensure we stick to the timeline but in the past some games have gone over by a few minutes.

I've attached a guide from US Lacrosse as a resource for you to ensure your son has properly fitted lacrosse equipment. Pay particular attention to the sizing information they offer. As for sticks, any youth stick between 37-42 inches should suffice, depending on your son's size.  Defense sticks which are longer will only be allowed in the 5th through 8th divisions.  I encourage players to tryout all positions including goalie.  I will have goalie gear so do not feel the need to buy that if you do not already have it.

For those of you new to the game, I've attached a Boys LAX Guide.

All players will need:

  • lacrosse helmet
  • shoulder pads
  • elbow pads
  • gloves
  • lacrosse stick
  • MOUTH PIECE -required-players will not be able to play without a mouthpiece! These are required to prevent concussions.
  • Protective cup (recommended)
  • (be sure to have all necessary equipment for your son the first day)

Outdoor field sport cleats are also highly recommended but any good quality athletic shoe (turf shoe) suitable for play on grass is acceptable.

Ensure your son's gear is marked somehow so he knows what gear belongs to him. I will be sending a separate email to those who will be renting equipment.  IMPORTANT!! If you do not receive a separate email regarding RENTAL EQUIPMENT and you believe you have rented or you do not have lacrosse equipment for you son yet, then we will be able to assist you with sourcing equipment. Please contact us for further assistance or questions. We want to ensure your son has all the required equipment needed before the start of the season.  All of our rentals have currently been reserved at this time although we will be doing a final count of our equipment this week and may have a few sets available due to change in rental needs.  Please do not wait to source equipment a day or two before the start of the season. It is best to make sure your son feels comfortable putting on his own equipment and that he is well prepared. You will need to have equipment prior to Sunday, September 11th.

It will most likely be hot out the first few weeks. Please ensure your son brings ample water with him (mark his bottles and coolers with his name). We will have water on site, but ensure he brings his own. I've attached a dehydration info sheet. Please read it to prevent heat injuries.

Safety is paramount in our organization. We will work hard to keep a safe environment, but ultimately we won't see everything. So if you see something unsafe, whether it is lightening in the distance or a kid who is being overly aggressive and on the brink of hurting a player, please stop us in our tracks and let us know. Our priorities are safety, fun and skill development (in that order).

We will have warm-ups and then work on skill building (drills) before breaking out into games.  Teams will be created to balance skill level so all players are given the opportunity to grow their game.  Coaches will challenge the most experienced players to work outside their comfort zone (work the off hand, draw double teams and pass, off ball movement, etc...)

If your son can't make it any week, please let me know since this will impact the rest of the players. I will be making a roster each week and the sooner you can let me know of an absence the more time I will have to adjust the roster accordingly.

Like us on Facebook! We send out notifications regarding field status (rainouts) and it is a great way for you to share your sons' achievements with friends and family. I encourage you to post videos and pics to FaceBook directly. I have the page settings set to permit our friends to post files, so if you get a great pic or video of your boy, doing something awesome on the field, please share it.

We use SportsEngine as our Webhost service.  You were registered on this site as part of the signup for Fall League 2016. We encourage you to update your notification settings to make sure you are kept up to date on all communications and alerts we send out about the league. If you would like us to add another email to the distribution list, please let us know.

Please contact me if you have any questions. Looking forward to seeing you all September 11th.
